March In The Backyard

Thanks to the rains, everything is green.  Roses are back in flower, and they look so good.  All plants are flourishing, citrus trees are laden with fruits, the self-sown pumpkin is spreading almost everywhere.  The potted strawberries and the patch are giving the second rounds of fruits for this year.  The grass grows so fast, I don't think we can keep up.  The backyard is so lush and green at the moment.  It needs tidying up though, I am waiting for the right weather.

Self Sown Plants: Tomatoes-Pumpkin?

In the Veggie Patch
lemongrass is growing well, more green beans in a plant
hot chilli, there are still green at present

From the backyard to the kitchen
a new tool, to clean and slice beans thinly
Thin and delicate sliced green beans

The beans are back, flowering again, gives us the second round harvest.  There are not many, but enough for us.  Sixteen green beans are picked, to cook for sautéed green beans and green chillies.
(using Lombok ijo: sautéed green beans, tomato, chilli and tempeh).  A savoury dish Javanese cooking.  Delicious to be served with steamed white rice.
My backyard in March 2012 needs a lot of work to do, the grass overgrows, Rayner is trying to keep up with the mowing.  I do like the grass cutting that I place under my rose bushes.  They don't look that attractive, but It is OK, a significant saving not buying fresh mulch.

Until Next Post
