March In The Backyard (Continued)

Red roses are beautiful,  a luxury that I could afford,  to have them inside to brighten up my table.  March is Autumn in Australia, It is great to have fresh cut flowers from the garden.  Winter time is a different matter, no flowers and most of my plants are resting.

White and pink icebergs roses are in bloom generously. They make a colourful and lovely show in the backyard. I cut them for the house too occasionally.

Topiary

Topiary plants, potted topiaries had a trim,  they are very tidy with round shapes,  and of course, it is time for them to have some fertiliser to grow better and to look green.   The hedges around veggie patch are neatly cut by Rayner, it looks perfect.  We did a great job yesterday.

Autumn Flowers Arrangement

The hydrangeas are almost finished, but some flowers are there.  The colour has changed to be rustic, deep maroon mixed with light green,  actually very beautiful, some of them turn into greyish.

Potted Strawberries

The new look of potted strawberries, they are well protected from birds (hopefully); also the fruits will hang better over the wire.  I could not wait to see these red berries hanging and draping down beautifully with a bright red colour.  An excellent idea of Max and Ann, which I copied, I saw their strawberries plants in their patch with this wire protection.

The Veggie Patch

garlic chives
From the veggie patch, there are green beans and green chillies also the last green tomatoes from this season.  The garlic chives are there, I could add them up into my cooking,  the sautéed green beans and chillies next time.

A recipe of the Javanese cooking, sautéd green beans with green chillies as promised.
I will be cooking the dish when I have enough ingredients/spices soon.

The Recipe:

Oseng Oseng Lombok Idjo-Javanese Cooking
(stir fry green chilli with beans and tempeh)
Four green chillies, sliced or chopped
16 green beans, chopped thinly
2 green tomatoes, sliced thinly
1 garlic, sliced
1 shallot, sliced
1 small and thin slice of galangal
salt and sweet soy to taste
Tempeh, slice thinly
chopped fresh garlic chives (optional)
Oil for shallow frying and sautéing

Method
Shallow fry the tempeh with the oil until golden brown, keep aside
Using the same utensil, drain some of the oil, leave about a tablespoon.
In hot oil, sauté the chilli, shallot, garlic until fragrant.
Add in the green tomatoes, toss and stir until the green tomatoes softened
Put in the green beans, set the  heat higher, toss and stir,  cook quickly - 2 minutes
Add in the tempeh, mix, toss and stir lightly, add in the salt, sweet soy and stir together
Transfer to a serving dish, enjoy!

My herbs garden and potted herbs are not too bad only they look a little tired.  I picked some of the lemon thyme today for my baking, 'potato and pumpkin rolls.'
