We enjoyed the red roses immensely, even though not for a very long time. Just the way it is, roses blooms beautifully in Victoria Australia but only for a short while, due to the harsh weather, either strong winds, intense heat or heavy rains. I manage to collect some fresh petals ready for rose cooler or rose syrup.
Rose Cooler Or Rose Syrup
I debuted the red roses, and I must put the fertiliser, and hoping that I will have another bloom for the second round this year. Usually, the flowers won't be as broad and as many as the first round.
Debudding Red Rose bushes
The red roses are very healthy, the leaves are green, no black spots, they were some aphids on them, but they are manageable. This coming Summer we will smell the beautiful red roses again. At the moment there are red roses no more.
Other roses, the floribunda is going beautifully, they last longer than other old-time roses.
Rose cooler, the recipe by Zack Hanle that I wish to share today.
My Home Made Rose Cooler |
3 cups fresh red roses petals - packed tightly
600 mils water
2 cups of sugar
8 cloves
Put all ingredients into a saucepan with a tight lid.
Rose cooler with soda water and ice cubes A very refreshing drink. |
Reduce heat and simmer gently with the lid on,
for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
When cold, strain into sterilised bottle and store in the refrigerator until ready to use.
Make a more refreshing by adding 2 jiggers of this rose syrup to a tumble of soda water.
It is also delightful in iced tea.

When I planted the roses, I did not know that I could do so much with them, from flower arrangements to salads, sweets and drinks.
Today's weather is pleasant, suitable for gardening and other outdoor activities. We decided to go for a bike ride. That was a good one.
Have a good Monday and the rest of the week
Until Next Time
