Avocado Drinks to Scones

The Hass avocado is the verity of avocados that I am familiar with,  it can be purchased from the local market or supermarket.  The avocado fruit is not sweet, but fatty, and distinctly yet subtly flavoured, and of smooth, almost creamy texture.  It is used in both savoury and sweet dishes.
The avocado is trendy in vegetarian cuisine, as a substitute for meats in sandwiches and salad because of its high-fat content.

Hass Avocado

The flesh is prone to enzymatic browning; it turns brown quickly after exposure to air.  To prevent this, lime or lemon juice can be added to avocados after they are peeled.

A puree fruit was used to thicken and flavour the liqueur Advocaat in its original recipe, made by the Dutch population of Suriname and Recife, with the name deriving from the same source.
In Indonesia the avocados are used for a milkshake, often add it with chocolate syrup.
I do make avocado drinks, I mix and blend the avocado with milk, honey and a drop of brandy.  It's lovely and very nourishing.

Avocado Drinks

Generally, avocado is served raw, though some cultivars, including the common Hass, can be cooked for a short time without becoming bitter.  I baked avocado bread with some almonds, it was great.
Avocado is very versatile, it uses for salads, dips-Mexican dip guacamole, and of course, it is the essential ingredient in California rolls (rolled sushi)

The mini avocado scones that I serve them as canapés,  beautiful and enjoyable.

Susy's Mini Avocado Scones

Ingredients:
1/2 cup avocado puree
1 and a half cup self-rising flour
1/2 cup milk or a little more
2 tablespoons margarine
a pinch of salt
Method:
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees C
Rub the margarine to the self-rising flour very well
Add in the avocado puree, and the milk, then mix them together quickly
Knead the dough lightly, roll it out the flat about 1cm thickness
Cut the dough with mini scone cuter (I use a sherry glass)
Bake in a hot oven for 8-10 minutes.
It keeps in a freezer very well.

Avocados have nutritional value:
  • About 75% of an avocado's calories com from fat, most of which is monounsaturated fat.
  • Avocados also have 60% more potassium than bananas.  They are rich in B vitamins, as well as vitamin E and vitamin K.
  • Avocados have a high fibre content among fruits - including 75% insoluble and 25% soluble fibre.
Large avocado intake was shown in one study to lower blood cholesterol levels.  Specifically, after a seven-day diet rich in avocados, mild hypercholesterolemia patients showed a 17% decrease in total serum cholesterol levels.  These subjects also showed a 22% decrease in both LDL (harmful cholesterol) and triglyceride levels and 11% increase in HDL (helpful cholesterol) levels.   (Wikipedia)

It has been great preparing this post.
