Garden Week

In The Garden

This week is all about the garden.  It is beautiful springtime, there is new growth: new leaves and flowers.  The weather starts picking up, the sun comes out, the warmth keeps us all at peace, and we can enjoy the outdoors.  Also, the bees and butterflies are happily visiting the garden to celebrate the season.

Our front garden and the backyard need a lot of work, the garden is smallish; however, it keeps us busy, as we all know, to maintain a tasty and healthy garden is an endless work.

Today I will share a part of the garden, mainly my potted herbs and vegetable patch.  This time I don't have many plants in the patch, as a plan, we will fix the irrigation first and followed by the planting of the vegetables.

There are some herbs in the patch. The mints, geranium, fennel, are tangled together, growing wildly and are very untidy.  The herbs need to be transplanted while irrigation work is in progress.

I am pleased to show you that the asparagus is coming up and ready to pick,  they are enough to cook for an omelette.

The garlic chives come back, Swiss Chards from last year are still there and self-seeds lamb lettuce grows well too.

The look of the Veg Patch Now

The plants around and in the vegetable patch

French sorrels, asparagus, Swiss chards, lamb lettuce, mints, fennel, lemon balm, chives, lemon thyme and nutmeg geranium.

Swiss Chard is a leafy green vegetable often used in Mediterranean cooking.  While the leaves are always green, chard stalks vary in colour.  Chard has been bred to have highly nutritious leaves at the expense of the root.  Wikipedia.

The New Growth

Lovage, a delicate herb which I love so much.  Thanks to Marina for the plants.

The potted plant and herbs

potted strawberries are flowering and fruiting

The potted rosemary is looking healthy, and the potted sage has buds

Potted Lovage has come back and growing very well.

The cascading rosemary is looking good.

potted dill - the seeds come up

potted fig has new leaves and a small fruit

The potted lemongrass is dying, it stayed outside unprotected in winter.
It is damaged by the frost.

Overall the plants are healthy enough, cleaning and loosening up the soil are needed, and of course, fertilising has to be done soon.  Busy time is ahead.

My herbs garden is almost a friendship garden, a few plants are gifts from friends. Thanks to Marina for the lovage, and thanks to Roland for the shallots, it has been good looking after and harvesting them.
The golden oregano,  a gift of Annie, unfortunately, is not there any longer,  no growth at all.  I lost my variegated oregano, which I planted last year as well.  It seems I have no luck to have this herb in the garden.

The joy of gardening is never finished.  More about my garden, stay tuned!

Until Next Post
Thanks For Stopping By
