Green Tomatoes


Fresh Green Tomato Relish  And  Fried Green Tomatoes

What do you do with green tomatoes, sometimes before the plants are ripening up I pick some of the green ones to make some relish or sambal to serve with fried green tomatoes?  The relish keeps for a few days refrigerated, take it out to room temperature before serving.

 My Green Tomato Relish:
Slice the green tomatoes thinly, stay for 10 minutes, transfer to a bowl


 Squeeze the juice, and discard the liquid, place in a bowl add the dressing and mix!

 The relish dressing: mix 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1teaspoon whole mustard and 1/4  vegetable oil, Mix!

Deep Fried Green Tomatoes:

The batter: 1/2 cup self-rising flour, 1 egg, 1/2 cup water salt and 1 tablespoon Parmesan cheese.  Mix these ingredients together to make a light, thin batter.  Keep aside to rest

Slice green firm tomatoes sprinkle with salt lightly.  Dip in a batter then fries in hot vegetable oil until golden.  Fish them out and rest them on absorbent papers.

Another way of using green tomatoes is for making chutney, especially the last month of the tomato season.  The green tomatoes cannot ripen as the cold weather is coming.



Soon, the principle of cookery will be on, I shall do the 'Deep Frying', one of the cooking methods.
