TAHU OR TOFU


Tahu or Tofu is one of my favourites food. You could do so much with it, from steamed, sauteed, braised to fried.  Served as salads, garnishes or cook with other ingredients and served it as the dish such as Tahu Guling (Pan-fried tofu mixed with vegetables, bakwan, dressed with sweet and salty soy and garnished with prawn crackers.  It is a delicious light meal.

Firm Tofu
It is a firm fried tofu which is available in an Asian grocery, and I prepared it for a salad and garnished with yellow rice.
Tahu Salad The dressing
Serves for 2
1 tablespoon sweet soy
1 tablespoon salty soy
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Shredded kaffir lime leaves
(Mix together and keep aside)

The Vegetables (as you like it)
Tomato, cucumber, cos lettuce, lemon basils (all shredded)

The Tahu: chop and heat it up in a pan fryer or in Microwave.


Place the warm tofu in a bowl,  add the dressing, toss together and add in the mixed vegetables, now mix together.

Serve the tahu salad - tofu salad straight away and garnished with the rice.
Tahu Salad with  Soy Dressing











Dressing for tofu could be done differently, dressed cooked tofu with lemon juice, vegetable oil and fresh herbs.  Delicious dishes for tofu, cooked and braised in spiced coconut milk, mashed tofu, mixed with mung beans and egg to make tofu balls and deep fried.  However, not everyone can take tofu on their diets.  My family loves tofu, I cook them often.

By the way, thank you, Melanie, for the tahu, the puff and the fresh white tofu are resting in the freezer.  I could not find the variation of tahu over here.  Such a thoughtful gift Mel!

It is a very short post but sweet enough.  The tahu salad could easily be prepared, as tofu is available in any supermarkets (you may have to pan fried if the same tofu as I had is not there).   Have fun in the kitchen!
