TOMAT . . . . . . .

Tomat is the word, but 'tomato' people would understand better, they know how the tomato looks, and people know what it is, and they know what for.  It does sound funny, but why 'tomato'.  In my native language, tomato is tomat, it could be influenced by the Dutch.
It is excellent to make sambal mixed with chilli, sambal tomat.  Sambal Tomat is hot red tomato relish. You could make with the green tomat, it refers to Sambal Lombok Ijo or spicy green tomato relish.

This year is the year of tomatoes people say, well I understood well as my tomato plants from the self-sown had done well.  Three kilograms or more, I had harvested just enough for what we need, no chance of sharing.  Now they all gone, pulled the plants but I kept one as two green tomatoes are still hanging there.  One tomato plant which I got from Bunnings, it has given me so much, harvested only once so far but it's the best tomato fruit for my vegetable garden that I ever collected.  With any luck, the two green tomatoes will grow into the large red tomato.

How will I celebrate this beautiful tomato, serve as it is, garnished with basil?  Or cooked juicy red steak and simply served and garnished with the tomato.  It is too pretty to cut, but we shall enjoy it with the deliciousness.  A juice, sweet and soft and tomato harvested from my own garden.
Today is the day, tomorrow will be too late because it's overripe.

Red tomato for us and the Green colour is for the Irish people as today is the Irish day.  How do they celebrate in term of food; Corn beef with all garnishes?  Happy Irish Day!

The name of the beautiful tomato plant is unknown now as the label has long gone.   It's a pity!

The Green Tomato
Sometimes the tomatoes are picked while still green for a particular purpose of the cooking.  But today they are simply the last tomato available.
Green chilli and green tomato are the perfect matches for a relish (Javanese cooking) - sambal Lombok idjo, you may call it Hot green tomato relish.
 Sambal Lombok Idjo
Green chilli, shallot, garlic salt, sugar and fish sauce, these are the ingredients that you need to make the 'sambal'  And how do you serve it.  Delicious with steamed white rice together with other garnishes.  I love to have it with steamed or fried 'Tofu'  Delicious!

For a large green tomato, sliced to a medium thickness, roll the slices in flour, deep in slightly beaten egg, and roll them onto dry bread crumbs, and fry in hot oil.  Another delicious recipe for green tomato.

It has been a good morning today, typing for the post and sharing about using red and green tomato. Next year will be more tomato plants in my vegetable garden and tomato sauce, relish and sambal will be in our cooking activity busy time in the kitchen.

Tomat another word in the Javanese Language is Ranti.  Saying ora suwe mijet wohing ranti.

I leave you with a beautiful Javanese phrase: Suwe mijet wohing ranti the meaning is it can be done easily and quickly.

EG:
1. Ora suwe mijet wohing ranti to delete the blog. (easy and quick to remove the blog)
2. She said, don't worry I will dress the salad at the last minutes, Ora suwe mijet wohing ranti.
3. Years ago, travelling to Melbourne by car will take time, but this days-ora suwe mijet wohing ranti
(the meaning is in all positive and a right way)

Note: with new technology things could be done, quickly, easily and also accurately.  Sometimes I wonder about the young generation to deal with all.  Things move so fast, rush and rush and forgot about yourself also forgetting the world around us.  We need to slow down, relax a little, but be thoughtful and productive.

On that note, I love to share the writing that is found in old Saint Paul's church, dated 1692 - DESIDERATA.  The two lines from the Beginning and the End.

*GO PLACIDLY AMID THE NOISE & HASTE, & REMEMBER WHAT PEACE THERE MAY BE IN SILENCE, AS FAR AS POSSIBLE WITHOUT surrender is on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull & ignorant; they to have their story.

*With all its sham, drudgery & broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.  Be careful.  Strive to be happy.

Such beautiful writing, I got the Desiderata framed and hang on to the wall of my study.  Beautiful and Powerful Words.

Updated: what had happened with the large red tomato?  We enjoyed it as a fresh salad dressed in fresh chopped shallots and wholegrain mustard, served with juicy pan-fried T-bone steaks.  Delish!
