August is the last month of winter in Australia, and it is cold, the garden looks sad and shabby. This time our front yard looks unpleasant as the grass becomes yellowish, very much unhealthy. Rayner said that it always been like this during winter only this year is worst.
The Front Garden.
The Standard tree Winter Sun has been flowering for a while, it dresses up the front yard.
The crucifix orchids always in flower, pretty pink.
The grass is yellowish, I am hoping that this coming spring it will be green again, time will tell.
Japanese Maples are losing the leaves, resting, and coming back in spring.
However the Queen of winter-Cyclamens are flowering, they are growing in pots happily.
Potted herbs are living well; also, the Swiss Chard plants grow beautifully during winter.
Sarah Jean cymbidium is in full bloom now, it gives more colour inside the house. A few late-flowering orchids are budding, they will open up in September. I am looking forward to seeing them in full bloom.

This year, the winter is cold and wet, but tolerable. Every season has its own story.
The Backyard.
