ROLLS


Roll It UP!
Spread the rice on a piece of banana leaf, place the filling upon it, add more rice over the filling, then roll it to make a long roll.  Do you familiar with this sequence.   I am sure you come across a lot of this food preparation. The wrapper could be made from flour - to prepare for pancakes,  could be a vegetable leaf,  or omelette etc.  Spring rolls, rice rolls, sausage rolls are common rolls, and I believe people know how to do.

Cooking Delicious Rolls starts from a place where I come from that is Java.  The dishes which are done using a similar technique are telor gulung or egg roll, Lemper-glutenous rice, filled with meat, then rolled and wrapped in banana leaf.  Arem -Arem, rice roll filled spiced meat and vegetable, wrapped in banana leaf and steamed.  You could find all these dishes in my older post.

Chinese: spring rolls.  It is sauteed meat and vegetable, wrapped in delicate pastry and fried until crisps.
The pastry for spring roll is readily made and available in any supermarkets.  So easy to make delicious spring rolls for snacking.

Greek:  cabbage rolls.  Rolled cabbage leaf filled with filling and cook them by braising in a sauce or bake them in the oven.

Swiss Roll. Initially, I am not too sure.  It is a sponge cake, spread with jam or whipped cream and rolled into a long log.  Sliced to served.

Chico Roll.  The food that I am not too keen to make or to eat, even though it's so popular and almost a signature of fried food for a takeaway.  Years ago, I was introduced with this food, bought in a fish and chip shop.  I found it was ridiculously bad, almost unpalatable, I did not like it, the pastry was so thick and dense, and the filling was so bland and was not sure what its made of. No, the legendary chico roll is not for me.
I am afraid I don't have the picture of the Chico Roll.  I have never attempted to cook, not even to buy any more.

Indeed I like to play with my cooking, particularly savoury food.  Sweets and cakes have to be done. Accordingly, you have to be careful with them, everything has to be weighed and measured.  It can be daunting as I am not too sure, by saying that I do the baking of, but I do not have the discipline to follow the recipes.

weeding and clearing up while Rayner did the pruning and mowing.  While I was in the garden, I picked some silverbeet and spinach for my cooking, these green

Are healthy to add to soups. There were some leftover silverbeet leaf and other greens, and at the very moment, I decided to use them as a wrap for my rice to make vegetarian rice rolls.

This is another made up a dish, the flavour is distinctly Javanese, but you will never find the dish over there.

Place it in a  foil, and wrap it
until serving time. Slice to serve
The pictures are clear enough and explain well.
Glad wrap, baking paper and the foil are needed, you have to have them for the making of the rolls.  In my parent house, always use the banana leaf for any rolls they make.
The Vegetarian Roll is Cooked
 When it is cold, unwrapped the paper, slice, and place them on a plate, served with sambal.



Such simple ingredients become the delicious food and good enough to serve for snacks for a family of four.  This was so easy as the cooking I understood well.  The new vegetarian rice "Roll" filled with tofu.

The new season, the spring will keep us busy, the garden needs our care and attention.  No more cooking for a while.  Just as well we both have to be away from food for our own good.
Soon, you will see more greens in the vegetable garden and clean garden beds.  Maintenance and maintenance what we are going to do, no, putting new things.  In any case, we should get rid of some, to much stuff! We shall be so lucky if we could manage to care for the garden.
We will be busy and working outdoors, but still, we can have delicious rolls from our freezer.  It is so good to be organised in cooking with proper planning you never lack anything.  Yes, you are on the rolls, and always ready to have and to serve.

How good it is, everything is working well.  To reminisce of chico roll was sweet, and creating vegetarian rice rolls was satisfying.  Even yesterday and yesterday before things were great, the Table Tennis Veteran Pennant that we were in was over on Friday with a celebration, and at the last games, we were on a roll.  Our team '' Silver'' on section 5 won the Premiership, and Rayner won two singles games, and he was so surprised but pleased to be able to beat a better player.  Very encouraging, indeed.
It is good to be having fun with good people, kind and generous, and it can be addictive. Rayner has already thought to enrol to the next spring pennant, I believe, it is a good idea!
