VEGETABLES



Harvested the silverbeet and it was fun, to clean, to chop, to blanch, overall was the preparation for a fantastic dish.  Well, at least I hope.

From the Vegetable Patch

Washing, cleaning up the dirt of the leaves thoroughly, enable me to chop and to cook them properly.

Chopping the green leaves and the white stems of the silverbeets.
Blanching the freshly chopped silverbeets before adding the cheese and eggs for the open pie or slice
Added eggs and grated cheddar cheese to the white part, and added egg and Fetta cheese to the green.
Place on a large lined baking tray which the puff pastry sat on it, spread the vegetable mixture on, level nicely and bake in a hot oven for 55 minutes.
Let the open pie cool on the tin, cut into slices, serve warm or cold.


The Preparation for Serving
 Delicious and beautiful looking platter of egg, cheese and silverbeet slices is ready to serve.  It was good to share with friends.  One of the best harvest from my vegetable garden to cook.

Savoury dishes are easy to prepare and very forgiving, you could make mistakes, and yet they are pretty good and enjoyable.  I thought that it would be better to have a sweet dish to go with the savoury.  Luckily I had prepared saffron bread, and it's in the freezer and ready to dress.  It's based on the recipe by Dan Lepard

I was amused to baking it because of the shape. S almost stands for my first name, but it is S for saffron.
To Dress the Saffron Bread
Sliced, Buttered, and added some shredded glace orange peeled


Garnished with Herbs-Sage Flowers and Fennel Leaves

Last but not least, dust with icing powder for extra sweetness and to look prettier.  The saffron bread is ready to serve, and it was yum.

It is good when the plan is working out, and easy preparation is the way to go.  Any simple cooking is always the best.

Beautiful green from my garden was cooked successfully. I decided to call the dish Egg and Cheese Sliced with Greens.  The bonus of the dish was not only to be enjoyed by my family but by other people, all good friends.

A lot more harvests for these greens, but some new seedlings have to be planted and looking forward to it.  Spring and Summer are the time to plant various vegetables.
